I can't find the app

Klikat shows up in your Dock and in the menu bar. Click the Dock icon to open its window, or right-click it for the recording options. You can switch to menu bar only (or Dock only) in Settings › General.

I can't find the icon in my menu bar

The menu bar icon is a small viewfinder symbol (⊡) near the clock. If it isn't there, your menu bar is full: macOS hides whatever doesn't fit, and Macs with a notch have less room than they appear to. Quit another menu bar app to free a slot, use a menu bar manager such as Ice (free) or Bartender, or just use the Dock icon instead.

"Screen Recording permission needed" keeps appearing

Turn on Klikat Screen Recorder in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording, then quit and reopen the app. macOS only applies the change to a freshly started app.

I can't find my recordings

They're saved to ~/Movies/ScreenRecorder unless you changed the folder in Settings. "Open Recordings Folder" in the menu takes you straight there. When a recording finishes, the file is revealed in Finder and copied to your clipboard, so you can paste it into a message.

I have several cameras — which one does it use?

Settings › Camera lists everything available: the built-in camera, any USB webcam, your iPhone when it's nearby (Continuity Camera) and Desk View on Macs that support it. Pick one there or under Camera Options in the menu. If that camera disappears mid-recording — picking up your iPhone, unplugging a webcam — Klikat switches to another one instead of going black.

The sound is there but too quiet

Settings › Audio has a Test Microphone button: it listens for two seconds and tells you the level it heard. Below about −50 dB nothing is really getting through. If it's quiet but working, raise Microphone level to +6 or +12 dB.

I plugged in a headset and now there's no voice

macOS switches the default input to the headphone jack as soon as you plug something in, and calls it "External Microphone" — even when the headset has no microphone. Klikat follows that default unless you tell it otherwise. In Settings › Audio, pick the microphone you actually want (for example "MacBook Pro Microphone") and test it.

The recording has no sound

System audio and microphone are off by default. Turn them on in Settings › Audio. The microphone also needs permission in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.

If you recorded both sources and can hear nothing in a browser, Slack or Drive: those players only play the first audio track. Keep "Mix into a single track" on in Settings › Audio (the default) so both sources end up in one track that plays everywhere. Turn it off only if you want the sources separated for editing.

My file is too large

In Settings, use HEVC rather than H.264, pick the "Small file" quality, drop to 30 or 15 fps, or turn on "Record Retina displays at 1×", which roughly halves the size.

Setting up automatic upload (Pro)

Settings › Upload. For Amazon S3, enter the bucket, region and an access key pair for an IAM user that can write to it; the secret is stored in your macOS Keychain. Leave the endpoint blank for AWS, or set it for Cloudflare R2, Wasabi or MinIO. With signed links turned on, recordings stay private and the link simply expires.

Step-by-step, including the exact IAM policy to use: setting up S3 upload. Signed links last up to 7 days, which is an AWS limit.

For Google Drive, create a Desktop app OAuth client in the Google Cloud console, paste its ID and secret, then click Connect. Klikat asks only for the drive.file scope, so it can only see files it created — not the rest of your Drive. Full walkthrough: setting up Google Drive upload. Remember to set the OAuth consent screen to In production — in Testing mode Google expires access every 7 days.

Both services take a folder, with an optional year/month subfolder (recordings/2026/09/…) to keep things tidy. Settings shows the exact path uploads will use. For Drive, give the folder a name and Klikat creates it on first upload — with the drive.file scope it can only see folders it made itself, so there is nothing to browse.

Uploads run after a recording is saved. Progress appears in the Klikat menu, and the share link is copied to your clipboard when it finishes. A failed upload can be retried from the same menu.

I'm not getting upload notifications

Klikat posts a notification when an upload finishes, with a Copy Link button. If nothing appears, macOS is blocking them: System Settings › Notifications › Klikat Screen Recorder, and turn on "Allow notifications". Settings › Upload has a Send a Test button that tells you whether they're getting through, and a shortcut to that pane.

Subscriptions, refunds and cancelling

Subscriptions are billed by Apple. Manage or cancel yours in System Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions, or at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If you bought Pro and it isn't showing, open Settings › Pro and choose Restore Purchases.
